The "some good good albums on my current playlist" list:
- Mum - Yesterday was Dramatic, Today is OK:
Sparse and electronic, yet lush and organic. This album is beautiful and brilliant. "I'm 9 today" is quite possibly one of the best IDM/glitch tracks ever ... the simply, pretty, twitchy buildup. The accordian climax. I was floored.
- Calexico - Feast of Wire:
What is it with bands ending in "co" redefining the alt. country genre? Anyway, this album can only loosely be defined as alt. country borrowing influences from everywhere .... jazz, zydeco, electronica. The result is a very diverse and yet remarkably cohesive album. Very emotional and quite lovely. I'm knocked out again.
- Suzanne Vega - Solitude Standing:
Retro album of the week. And I'm savoring every minute, through my stuffed sinuses. The perfect album when the flu has you down.
- Jurassic 5 - Power in Numbers:
One word ... DOPE!
- Sahara Hotnights - Jennie Bomb:
Fuck the Donnas. They are a bunch of sellout posers. THIS is what girl punk is supposed to sound like.
- RJD2 - Dead Ringer:
Slightly darker hiphop, produced with a lot of style. This kid seems to be working with everyone these days, so it's good to hear his own stuff.
The "I want these sooo" bad list
- Mogwai - Ten Rapid:
So the Levis buffalo stampede commercial is stupid and pretentious, but it has this killer Mogwai track (Summer) that makes me want to get this album now.
- Notwist - Neon Golden:
The East Bay Express liked them, and their previous recommendations have included Clinic and Dalek. Sold!
- Deerhoof - Apple o':
My friend Andro likes them. Salon likes them. Worth checking out ...
- Brian Eno - Music for Airports
- Tom Waits - Small Change
